SHEFFIELD SETS OUT FOR A SHARE OF WORLD CUP GLORY

Sheffield is gearing up for a share of World Cup glory, as the city officially launches its campaign to host World Cup games, in support of the England 2018 World Cup Bid.

Sheffield has announced that it will apply to be a host city and has launched ‘Sheffield 2018’, a unified city bid with an experienced team of stakeholders representing the city and providing the expertise to deliver. Individuals from a variety of organisations in the city including both football clubs are behind the bid, all hoping to achieve glory for Sheffield and bring World Cup Games to the city in 2018.

Doug Liversidge, Chair of the Sheffield 2018 Stakeholder Group commented,

"There is a big job to be done over the coming months, which will involve preparing all the evidence required to demonstrate Sheffield as a hub of sporting excellence and a city well equipped to host World Cup Games.

“A vital part of the bidding process is to show that the people of Sheffield also support the campaign to bring World Cup Games to the city. It is fundamental that we can demonstrate support from within the city and I am confident that people will back the bid and register their support for Sheffield on the England 2018 website!”

Supporters of the Sheffield bid are being asked to register their details on the official England 2018 website www.england2018bid.com where support for individual cities is being registered as part of the overall England 2018 World Cup campaign.

Applicant host cities are required to focus on a variety of aspects in order to be considered acceptable to host World Cup games. Elements being considered are the infrastructure necessary to meet FIFA’s expectations, including stadiums, training venues, base camps and fan parks. Cities are also expected to have excellent accommodation and transport services, and robust plans for safety, security and sustainability, to support the volume of sports fans expected to attend the 2018 World Cup.

You can pledge your support to England 2018 and Sheffield by backing the bid at: http://www.england2018bid.com/support/register.aspx
