Host City: London

London United

'I believe that England is the best country to host the FIFA World Cup tournament. It's known around the world for being football mad - from a friendly kick about in the local park, to the top-flight professional club and international matches attracting fans in their tens of thousands each week. We really want the World Cup to come to London and will work closely with the other host cities to ensure a brilliant tournament and also a fantastic visitor experience for all football fans coming here.'
Mayor of London Boris Johnson

London is united in welcoming the world.

London is home to seven million people. Over 300 languages are spoken in the capital; its diversity is what makes it different. London is a city which can welcome the world and where each competing country already has a fan-base resident. Londoners are passionate about sport and are ready to host the 2018 World Cup.

London is also among the world’s best-connected international locations - a crossroads for Asia, Europe and America with five gateway airports serving 180 destinations.

London Inspires

London is a destination that inspires sporting theatre – whether it’s at Wembley, Wimbledon or Lord’s Cricket Ground. London also has an abundance of public spaces where the world’s best cyclists and marathon runners regularly compete against the iconic backdrop of world-famous landmarks.

London understands major events and would relish the opportunity to host part of the World Cup.

London has already staged a number of iconic sporting events and is set to welcome even more in the years leading up to and after the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games.

London backs Sport

As a city London also realises the importance of sporting events, both in terms of the social benefit to Londoners and future generations, but also in the way in which sporting events can help break-down boundaries as they join together to cheer on and support the ‘beautiful game’.

London has constantly been heralded as the ideal platform to host major events due to its passion for sports, the unrivalled transport links and its ability to draw huge international global press and media audiences.

In recent year’s London’s event’s calendar has been populated by world class sporting events including US sporting giants the NBA and NFL, global sports phenomenon Twenty20 Cricket and the eagerly followed Tour de France. London’s sporting calendar has started to reflect the huge potential the city offers federations, organisers and rights holders.
