BENEFITS TO HOST CITIES
The Candidate Host Cities will have a wonderful chance to showcase themselves to the
watching world and thousands of visitors. They’ll become a magnet for sporting,
cultural and entertainment events.
Inward investment and the income from thousands of business and leisure visitors
will enable existing infrastructure to be upgraded, and create new jobs. Sports
facilities will be improved.
Being a World Cup venue will generate pride, prestige and excitement. The city will
have a team of motivated volunteers. And a new generation will be inspired to play
sport.
When Germany hosted 2006 FIFA World Cup™, the country’s tourist industry enjoyed
a $400m uplift. Hundreds of businesses benefited from two million international
visitors and a total of 3.3m spectators, many of them watching on big-screens in
city centres. 85,000 jobs were created by the tournament.
