CHOOSING ENGLAND’S HOST CITIES

After a competitive process and detailed inspections by the England 2018 team, 12 cities from across England have been selected for inclusion in the Bid Book as a Candidate Host City.

THE CANDIDATES

In alphabetical order:

These cities also have the option of bidding to host the following World Cup Events:

  • Preliminary Draw
  • Confederations Cup Draw
  • Final Draw
  • Team Workshop
  • Referees Workshop
  • Medical Workshop
  • Broadcast Workshops
  • FIFA Congress
  • FIFA Banquet

The successful Candidate Host Cities have demonstrated to the England 2018 team that they have the infrastructure necessary to meet or exceed FIFA’s requirements. This includes stadiums, training venues, base camps and Fan Parks.

Our Candidate Host Cities will have strong public backing for their bid, plus the support of local and regional media.

They will also be able to provide excellent accommodation and transport services, and have robust plans for safety, security and sustainability.

BENEFITS TO HOST CITIES

The Candidate Host Cities will have a wonderful chance to showcase themselves to the watching world and thousands of visitors. They’ll become a magnet for sporting, cultural and entertainment events.

Inward investment and the income from thousands of business and leisure visitors will enable existing infrastructure to be upgraded, and create new jobs. Sports facilities will be improved.

Being a World Cup venue will generate pride, prestige and excitement. The city will have a team of motivated volunteers. And a new generation will be inspired to play sport.

When Germany hosted 2006 FIFA World Cup™, the country’s tourist industry enjoyed a $400m uplift. Hundreds of businesses benefited from two million international visitors and a total of 3.3m spectators, many of them watching on big-screens in city centres. 85,000 jobs were created by the tournament.
